Wood Street are my go-to for anything bass or guitar related. Jake has been stellar and done amazing work on several of my instruments. They've done everything from cleaning and straightening out a filthy precision bass, carefully drilling and installing a mastery tremolo system, refretting an aluminum neck bass, pickup switch-outs you name it. Also zero attitude, these guys are just stoked to do the work and the love of their craft has shown through on every job I have given them. I can't recommend these folks any more highly.

The guys at Wood are among the highest echelon of guitar techs you'll come across. Tomm has been working on my basses for almost a decade and I would follow him across country if necessary to have his expert touch. He recently did a minor setup and tweak to my custom 4-string bass for a very competitive rate, which other techs tend to usually under setup or not get it exactly right. Tomm literally gets the bass to play the same way it did when the luthier who built the bass for me handed it to me on day 1. If having experts work on your guitar isn't enough, the team at Wood are straight up professionals. They're also good people and you don't get the seedy, ego, long backlog or pretension that sometimes comes along with the other repair shops you walk into. Seriously, if you're within the Bay Area, you shouldn't go anywhere else but here.

The volume control on my Telecaster gave out, and I figured I’d have to leave it with a shop for a week or more. Then I called these guys. Tomm told me he could see me that day and fix the guitar in 15 minutes. That’s exactly what happened. I placed my guitar in the gate (observing social distancing) and went back to my car. About 10 minutes later he called saying it was done, and followed up with some helpful advice for getting the best sound out of my guitar. Highly recommended.

About us

Lewis Santer has been building and repairing acoustic instruments since 1986. He apprenticed in the early 1990s with TJ Thompson, managed Ervin Somogyi's building and apprenticeship program for 8 years, has worked for 7 years with Geoff Lutrell and the Plek machine at SF Guitarworks and has been an authorized Martin Guitar Warranty repairman since 1995. He plays guitar and mandolin-family instruments in a number of traditional Irish bands, including one that he co-founded in 1997, Driving with Fergus.

Tomm Nguyen has been repairing fretted instruments for over a decade. He started playing guitar at age 12 and moved into electronic and woodworking repairs in college. He worked at Keith Holland Guitar Hospital and then for 7 years at SF Guitarworks with an emphasis on complex electronic modification and buttery fretwork. Tomm plays in the band Hawak and as a solo performer under the moniker Tomm Nguyen.

Jake Palladino has been really good at breaking guitars since his young punk rockers days. By necessity, he's become adept at fixing them. Later in life, he spent 8 years at SF Guitarworks learning how to properly repair and modify stringed instruments. Jake is a busy performing musician who plays guitar in Psychic Hit, Pins of Light, Hightower, and as a one-person band called Your Leader.
